Sutainability requires good leadership, especially during times of crisis. Good leadership means being attentive to people's needs, and working quickly to problem-solve, and provide solutions.
With the current devastation caused by the coronavirus and the way it is being handled by government, one has every right to be concerned about our future. Limited and very late actions taken to protect the people from catching the virus, as well as complete disorganization as to protecting healthcare workers on the frontlines and providing the proper PPE equipment has been devastating to so many. Now More than 9,000 U.S. health-care workers have been infected with the coronavirus according to the Washington Post, which is 9,000 too many.
I keep asking myself, why is our President on Twitter all the time? Shouldn't he have more pressing things to do like running a country in crisis?
Our country is now on the verge of the greatest recession since The Great Depression. How are things going to be the same or different when we come out of the pandemic? It is clear right now, that how we will come out of this is far from how we came in. The pandemic has changed a great deal, showing the public how vulnerable it is to pandemics, that we are not yet prepared to handle them, and that the government, hospitals, and health care insitutions do not have the capacity nor enough equipment to care for so many patients. With 9,000 healthcare workers contracting the coronavirus, and lawsuits filed for lack of PPE, largescale improvements will have to be made for the public to have any faith in the healthcare system or the government in the future.
An eloquent endorsement with action and hope
As government descends into swirls of chaotic remarks made by President Trump, Obama's elegant and enlightening speech endorsing Joe Biden for President couldn't have come at a better time. Obama's points ring like a bell highlighting the importance of empathy, grace, honesty, and humility in leadership, particularly in the White House. As he explains, in times of crisis people are in need of a kindred spirit, a true leader who understands the people they lead, and someone who cares about doing a good job. The coming elections will tell if the people seek to improve the state of our country and the lives of its citizens or not.
